The National Cyber Security Directorate has proven its ability to activate, coordinate and collaborate with victims of cyber attacks, governmental and private sector actors involved in responding to such attacks, the institution's director wrote online.
Dan Cimpean pointed out that the Directorate handled the two cyber attacks on the Chamber of Deputies and the National Health System without activating the European mechanism that helps implement the European Commission's rapid emergency response plan in the event of a large-scale cross-border cyber incident or crisis.
The head of the NCSD also conveyed that allies and international partners have offered their help, but stressed that it was paramount for Romania to test and have confidence in its own capabilities to contain, deter and respond to such attacks. "We do not pay ransom for cyber attacks and we do not negotiate on this issue", Dan Cimpean wrote.
